Welcome to the MWA Report...
THE guide for gettin your crip ass into the cool places in Chicago!
There are 2 general ratings for each venue as well as a more detailed report.
The rating system is: 1-5. 5 being the worst...as in if you go there be
psyched for it being a difficult thing and REALLY NEED to see what is on
the other end.
The ratings are:
How accessible is it really?!
By this I mean are there stairs, steep ramps, inaccessible bathrooms, narrow
doorways...are there parts of the venue that may be accessible and other
parts that aren't? Also, when it isn't accessible, are there ways around
it if you want to get there bad enough.
How problematic are the staff/other patrons?!
This is really important too. If the staff has attitude about you trying
to wheel around in their establishment...or use crutches, canes and the
like...or if they are simply EXTREMELY unhelpful, or conversely if they
are REALLY COOL.
Patrons can be as big of obstacles as seating, stairs, and other objects.
If you are coming up a steep ramp that you are defying gravity to not tip
over on and some schmuck is at the top being oblivious to you yelling "Outta
the way!!!" or if they are rude about you trying to get around in other
ways... but sometimes they are helpful too...
Input is welcome...as well as submissions for places to review or reviews
of them. I am very aware that I am only reviewing for mobility accessibility
at present. I will attempt to start reviewing for other accessibility issues
in the not too distant future.
Who am I to be doin this? I am a queer cripdyke with MS. I am also a web
designer, sound designer, graphic designer...check out my company:
